Technology Content

In terms of technology, I am making progress currently in the area of XML.
I have a code written in Python which will transform a spreadsheet (tab delimitted) into an XML document. I have incorporated it's use with matplotlib, a code for python which produces many nice plots.
XML provides major advantages over any other data storage languages. First, XML is human readable, and does not change with the versioning. However, the philosophical advantage is that the datafile holds only the content - not information on how to display it. The display and use of the content is kept in separate files.
I personally feel that the problem with excel is that emphasizes the display of data over the data itself. Instead, by using a technology which emphasizes content, I believe it is easier to work with the data.

( 2.9 / 60 )Final Design Content
Tuesday, April 26, 2005, 15:44 - Final Designs
Once I finish preliminary work in my yacht design system, I will begin posting some designs.
My purpose is to create a fleet of boats as a database for the system.
However, since this is only a hobby... it will take a while.

( 3.1 / 51 )Performance Content
Tuesday, April 26, 2005, 15:42 - Performance
I have four current projects in the Performance section.
First is my lagrangian CFD code. I began the theory for this at Berkeley. I recently rewrote the project from scratch, and am working on ways to improve the stability.
Secondly, I am working on a boundary integral formulation for the potential flow around sailboats. I will most likely use a linearized free-surface.
Third, I already have my Michell's theory in spreadsheet form (and it is fast). I hope to incorporate this with my yacht design system.
Lastly, once I am able to incorporate one or more hydrodynamic tools, I will pair this with aerodynamic theory to produce a generic VPP.
