The structural design of a ship is the area which I have the least experience in writing software for.
I have made a 3d FEM code, as well as a 3d Direct Stiffness Method - except not for ships.
My current work is to make a generic spreadsheet for the scantling rules. Once I finish the scantling rurles, I will start on importing the more computational routines for use in ships.

( 2.8 / 26 )Hydrostatics Content
Tuesday, April 26, 2005, 11:06 - Hydrostatics
I initially wrote a hydrostatics program in Excel for my first design ever (YP design). I did this because when I made a small change in the hull shape, I wanted to immidiately know the effects on center of buoyancy. I was also able to "balance" CG and CB automatically.
Since then, I wrote another spreadsheet for a specific sailboat, but have now made my spreadsheet for sailboats in general.
The problem with it is:
1) it's ugly
2) it's hard to use
3) there is no "help"
Well, I'm probably going to redo the spreadsheet, and then rewrite the program in another language.

( 2.8 / 35 )Naval Arch Primer Content
Tuesday, April 26, 2005, 11:01 - Naval Arch Primer
My Naval Arch Primer currently has three entries
1) Ship Geometry
2) Resistance I
3) Resistance II
I plan on writing next a buoyancy and hydrostatics primer. Furthermore, I think I could make the Resistance Primers better too. I will rework that content soon.
