Yacht Design Content
Tuesday, April 26, 2005, 10:57 - Yacht Design
My over-arching plans are to create a flexible yacht design system for use on multiple platforms.
The use of the system includes preliminary design and then includes an initial refining using about one or two loops of the design spiral.
Furthermore, the content for the system is stored in a very flexible way using XML files. I have come up with a few data formats for various parts of the project, all of which will be posted.
Initially, I am calling this the Yacht Design System (YDS). I may make it all in Java and even post the program to be run on-line. Plans also include access to a very large database of yachts (again using XML).

( 3 / 30 )Preliminary Design Content
Tuesday, April 26, 2005, 10:53 - Preliminary Design
My Preliminary Design folder contains information of my various works in progress including:
1) Lagrange Multiplier Hull Design
By taking values of prismatic coefficient, block coefficient, etc, a "best fit" hull design is found through a random walk method. This is written in C++ using X-Windows. I plan to incorporate this with XML for use in my Yacht Design System. I also plan to rewrite the code in Java.
2) Delft regressions
I am using the delft series for use with my Yacht Design System for preliminary resistance data. I find Excel to be burdensome to use, so I'm trying to come up with a better tool.
3) Michell Theory
Again, my current michell theory work is in a spreadsheet. I'm trying to figure out a better method.
4) Scantling Rules
I have not begun to write a scantling rules program. However, I will probably initially write it as a spreadsheet, and then turn it into something better...

Welcome to my blog page.
This blog is special in that it contains no information about myself, but serves as a place for me to indicate my progress on various works.
