Final Design
Although I have a bachelor's degree in Naval Architecture and a master's degree in offshore engineering, I have never worked as a naval architect and thus not really competent to do a real design. I do, however, understand the process and have completed two designs while at school.
Instead, my hobby is simply toying around with sailboats (and doodling hulls and sailplans when class gets boring).
Yard Patrol Craft
This was my first design as a part of my ship design class. It is a "yard-patrol" craft for a naval training vessel. It's actually a pretty poor design (and I got a B in the class), but I was able to create my own design and stability spreadsheet. If you'd like to take a look at what goes into a design report, here it is in three parts.
Squall
The schooner Squall was my second design which was performed as a group project. We won the "Mandell-Rosenblatt Prize" for the most aesthetic design. It's a really nice vessel if you have about $1.5M to throw away. I was responsible for the hull form and Squall performance characteristics. The other members of the group did the structural work and everything else. I do not have their work (which was really good), but I do have the Squall presentation.
